Another successful Lumina networking event at the top of the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington at the Min Jiang restaurant to celebrate the Chinese New Year – the Year of the Pig.
The Zodiac Pig represents hope and enthusiasm for the year and it was great to hear from various guests that their companies, programmes and products were expanding and continued to outperform expectations while the media industry faces looming challenges in 2019.
With wonderful views of the London skyline at night and Kensington Palace below, we welcomed guests for champagne and dinner with senior executives attending from BBC Global News, NBCUniversal, Endemol Shine, MGM and Discovery.
Our guest speaker was Jean Dong, CEO of Zespa Media, who gave a short presentation on opportunities for content producers and distributors in the Chinese media marketplace followed by a Q & A.
Jean provided an insightful look on the media landscape in China as it begins to adopt more Western formats for its television channels, plus market opportunities across both scripted and non-scripted content for production houses. Topics also included the developing China Media Fund project and investments in Western media businesses.
The Min Jiang restaurant was luxuriously dressed for the Chinese New Year with traditional elements, including hongbao hanging from trees – small red envelopes with money are handed to younger family members. It’s proof that money does grow on trees!
The food at Min Jiang attracts visitors from across London for its legendary wood-fired Beijing Duck. It’s prepared according to a traditional Chinese recipe, with the hanging duck roasted above hot fires to ensure a crispy skin and succulent meat inside..
Our thanks goes out to all our guests who contributed to a great evening for networking and discussing current topics n the media industry. We would also like to our gratitude to Jean for coming along and providing her insights on the Chinese marketplace – which was well-received and appreciated by everyone there.
