Lumina continued its partnership with MBC with our latest placement which sees Jessica Pope joining the Middle-East broadcaster as Director of Development. She will lead the development for scripted projects at MBC Studios and joins at a pivotal moment as the broadcaster expands its production division and increases its investment into new, original content.
Middle East Broadcasting Center (MBC) is the largest and leading media company in the MENA region, operating over 20 television and radio stations, plus one of the Arab world’s largest SVODs – Shahid VIP. Launched in London back in the early 1990s, it grew rapidly and eventually moved to its current site at Dubai Media City in 2002 with 200 employees. Since then, the MBC Group’s growth has been rapid and employs over 2,800 people. MBC Studios is the group’s production arm, developing compelling content for cinema, television and VOD platforms. It’s currently in production for a number of Shahid exclusives, with filming underway in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE, Lebanon and others.
Jess joins MBC after a year with Stockholm-based MOPAR Studios. Prior to this, she was a Co-Executive Producer on Carnival Film & Television’s The Last Kingdom, and an Executive Producer for BBC Drama where she developed the global hit The Musketeers, Good Cop and Silent Witness. She’s also worked with Channel 4 as a Commissioner earlier in her career.
Very best of luck to Jess in her new role and we cannot wait to see the first productions in the pipeline.
